Plotters are probably what you mean. They are an electronic platform that can connect a computer via a USB port and a pen, the writing and then move the cursor on the screen when you move through the book.
Wacom is the best, I have a Wacom Intuos tablet, and it's wonderful. The smaller Intuos cost about $ 200, the Graphire (they are less expensive model that has everything you need for what you want) is probably less well.
